| To advocate and support maximum openness in local, county and state government.
To provide assistance to citizens seeking timely access to the meetings and information to which they are entitled. To stimulate civic renewal and trust in government. To answer questions of public officials, citizens, lawyers and journalists on access issues. To recognize exemplary practices by teachers, schools, civic groups, public officials, lawyers and journalists that promote openness and confidence in government. To disseminate information and provide education on access issues by publishing a newsletter, maintaining a Web site, working with schools and conducting forums and workshops. At least 20 states have organizations similar to ALACOG.
